Mudslides after heavy rains have buried over 200 families in Sri Lanka. The disaster hit a remote area about 45 miles north of the capital city of Colombo after several days of heavy rain.

Some 180 people have been rescued and at least 27 are dead. More than 300 soldiers were deployed to search for survivors. The Red Cross says that 220 families are missing, which suggests that the death toll could increase dramatically.

The Disaster Management Ministry said that the heavy flooding throughout the country has displaced more the 73,000 families and over 160,000 have been evacuated from low-lying land to refugee camps.

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air… Ephesians 2:2

“While appearing to the children of men as a great physician who can heal all their maladies, [Satan] will bring disease and disaster, until populous cities are reduced to ruin and desolation. Even now he is at work. In accidents and calamities by sea and by land, in great conflagrations, in fierce tornadoes and terrific hailstorms, in tempests, floods, cyclones, tidal waves, and earthquakes, in every place and in a thousand forms, Satan is exercising his power… These visitations are to become more and more frequent and disastrous. Destruction will be upon both man and beast.” The Great Controversy, pages 589-590.

Bakeries in Tonga will soon no longer be able to open on Sundays after the government sided with churches.

Technically, they’ve never been allowed to open because the constitution makes clear that Sundays are off limits for commercial business: “The Sabbath Day shall be kept holy in Tonga and no person shall practise his trade or profession or conduct any commercial undertaking on the Sabbath Day,” it reads.

But that’s been rarely observed since a cyclone in 1982 when bakeries opened to provide emergency food.

Church leaders finally had enough this year and called on the Tongan government to restore Sundays to a sacred day. And that’s exactly what will happen from July 3.

Local bakeries, which had been pushing for a public vote on the issue, say the decision will lead to job losses.

The government has exempted restaurants from the ban, saying tourists expect to be able to buy food on a Sunday.

And let it be remembered, it is the boast of Rome that she never changes. The principles of Gregory VII and Innocent III are still the principles of the Roman Catholic Church. And had she but the power, she would put them in practice with as much vigor now as in past centuries. Protestants little know what they are doing when they propose to accept the aid of Rome in the work of Sunday exaltation. While they are bent upon the accomplishment of their purpose, Rome is aiming to re-establish her power, to recover her lost supremacy. Let the principle once be established in the United States that the church may employ or control the power of the state; that religious observances may be enforced by secular laws; in short, that the authority of church and state is to dominate the conscience, and the triumph of Rome in this country is assured.—Great Controversy pg. 581

Held annually on the first Thursday in May (this year it falls on the 5th) in the United States, is the National Day of Prayer. 2016 marks the 65th National Day of prayer with the theme of “Wake Up America.” From its official website it is stated: “Our theme for 2016 is Wake Up America, emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to return to the God of our Fathers in reverence for His Holy Name… For the May 5th observances, Dr. Tony Evans, the 2016 Honorary Chairman, wrote a special prayer to be simultaneously read throughout the nation at noon (ET).  This recitation will create a huge wave of prayer, flowing from one coast to the other, illustrating the unity of God’s people and acknowledging His dominion over the circumstances facing us.  Millions of people will gather to pray at thousands of events facilitated by our volunteer coordinators and people just like you!”1

It must be noted that the 2016 theme, “Wake Up America” is ironically similar to Pope Francis’ album title that was released November 27, 2015, which “is a music and spoken-word hybrid, combining Christian hymns revamped by modern musicians and composers with 11 speeches delivered by Francis in Italian, Spanish, English and Portuguese.”2 Track 7 on the album, titled Wake Up! Go Forward! Go Forward! is where the album title is taken from. Could it be that the same message being conveyed from the Papacy (the first beast of Revelation 13), that apostate Protestant America is reechoing (the second beast of Revelation of 13)—the image mirroring the beast? While the Papacy and America are calling for people to wake up and go forward in not only accepting but also pushing the agenda of the Papacy, God is calling upon his people to wake up to the fast-fulfilling prophecies all around and make the necessary mental, spiritual and physical preparations.

The history of National Day of prayer dates back to 1952. “On April 17 a bill initiated by Mr. Conrad Hilton of Hilton Hotels and Senator Frank Carlson of Kansas was passed (Public Law 82-324) that the President of the United States was to set aside an appropriate day each year, other than Sunday, as a National Day of Prayer.”3 The President that signed it into law was Harry S. Truman. Fast forward 46 years to 1998, the year “Bill Clinton signs into law – Pub. L. 105-225, August 12, 1998, 112 Stat. 1258: The President shall issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals.”4

The 2016 honorary chairman of the National Day of Prayer, Dr. Tony Evans, a well-known, highly respected best-selling author and leader/speaker in the evangelical community. “Dr. Evans has served as the senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship for over 36 years, witnessing its growth from ten people in 1976 to now over 8,500 congregants with 100 plus ministries.”5 One book penned by the renowned pastor is titled, “America: Turning a Nation to God.” Fox News ran an article wherein Evans provides adaptations from the book for the occasion of the National Day of Prayer. He states “When I discuss this topic, one of the first questions I hear is, ‘What about the separation of church and state?’ Although this term does not appear in our Constitution, many people believe that it does. Thomas Jefferson actually used the phrase ‘separation of church and state’ in his letter to the Danbury Baptist Association in 1802, but he was referring to the government infringing on the rights and freedoms of the religious, and not the other way around…The Church should be the conscience of the culture, and it has never been needed more than it is today, with our land facing a myriad of problems ranging from family breakdowns to the immigration crisis to the abiding racial divide.  Tragically, as the fabric of our country unravels, we fail to see the spiritual problems that are at the root of our national malaise. God is trying to get our attention. Many people want ‘God bless America,’ but they don’t want ‘One Nation under God.’ The problem is you can’t have one without the other.”6

Perhaps the reader has missed what Evans is promoting. He states that
“the Church should be the conscience of culture,” asserting that if it was, the problems facing society would be remedied. This is the very call that advocates of the Sunday movement are making and will continue to make as social problems continue to increase. “Yet this very class put forth the claim that the fast-spreading corruption is largely attributable to the desecration of the so-called ‘Christian sabbath,’ and that the enforcement of Sunday observance would greatly improve the morals of society. This claim is especially urged in America…”7 Since the first Thursday in May each year is designated by law as the National Day of prayer, it is not at all hard to understand how the Sunday of each week can and will be instituted as a National Day of Worship and just how many will accept and honor that day, a spurious Sabbath established by the Papacy. Let it also be remembered that not too long ago there were Sunday blue laws in America enforcing religious standards such as prohibiting work or buying and selling on Sundays

“Like Thanksgiving or Christmas, this day has become a national observance placed on all Hallmark calendars and observed annually across the nation and in Washington, D.C. Every year, local, state, and federal observances were held from sunrise in Maine to sunset in Hawaii, uniting Americans from all socio-economic, political and ethnic backgrounds in prayer for our nation. It is estimated that over two million people attended more than 30,000 observances – organized by approximately 40,000 volunteers. At state capitols, county court houses, on the steps of city halls, and in schools, businesses, churches and homes, people stopped their activities and gathered for prayer.”8

Will the people of God in America and throughout the world wake up to the realization that “we are called individually to be students of prophecy. We must watch with earnestness that we may discern any ray of light which God shall present to us. We are to catch the first gleamings of truth; and through prayerful study, clearer light may be obtained, which can be brought before others.”9
