How the ALS ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ Spread Around the World – SOCIAL CONFORMITY EXPERIMENT? (August 2014)

“It’s one of the most successful awareness campaigns that has ever run online, with people from Giselle Bundchen to George W. Bush to Bill Gates taking part. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has raised almost US100 million for people suffering with the condition better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease since it kicked off in late July.”

I post this friends purely to warn you to be on your guard at all times, and to not get drawn into this dangerous web of ‘social conformity‘. Even though something may ‘seem’ right and good, doesn’t mean it actually is good. Look at what the Word of God tells us:

Proverbs 14:12 …’There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.’

Why the ‘ice bucket challenge’? Why not just give money to those in need? There is more to this than meets the eye.

With the explosion of ‘social media’, people these days seem more willing to conform to the things of the world. Not only did the so called worldly celebrities take part in this ‘ice bucket challenge’, many of the leading Evangelical pastors took part also, with professed Christians all over the world taking part. And what happens when you ‘nominate’ someone else? They feel under pressure to ‘conform’, which many people did.

Yes, this supposedly raised 100 million dollars for ALS, but how much of that really goes to those in need compared with what goes into the pockets of the people running it?

Satan is ‘experimenting’ and seeing how many blind goats he can get to follow him. We are living in perilous times friends, physically and spiritually. Please be on your guard. Rather than focus on what pleases man, focus on what pleases God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. Stay in the Word of God and the Word alone!

Angels are real! Sometimes called cherubim or seraphim, these powerful ministering spirits appear all through Bible history. Often they are seen protecting and guiding God’s people, and sometimes punishing evil – but one of their most important missions is to reveal and explain prophecy. Did you know God has said something special through His angels to the stressed out people of our hectic worl…

Suicide: A Final Act

Suicide: A Final Act

Many fans were devastated when they heard the news that celebrated comedian Robin Williams ended his own life on August 11. The American actor rose to fame in the 70s playing an alien in the TV series Mork & Mindy. He also performed in dozens of popular films and won many acting awards, amassing a personal fortune along the way.

Williams was open about his struggles with alcohol, drugs, and depression. Early on in his burgeoning career, he became addicted to cocaine but gave it up after the sudden overdose death of his friend, fellow actor John Belushi. Williams turned to cycling to help him deal with his ongoing depression, but unfortunately, he eventually lost the battle.

Depression is a complex illness with many factors contributing to feelings of hopelessness, so when it comes to suicide, we should be careful not to make quick judgments. We don’t know the thoughts and experiences of someone who takes his or her own life. Only God knows a person’s heart (Psalm 139:1). We must therefore leave a person’s ultimate fate in His hands.

But suicide is still a “final choice” action—it’s impossible to change your mind after the fact. We must also recognize the value of life emphasized in the Bible (Exodus 20:13) and that, in this sin-filled world, suicide is a violation of God’s will.

While the Bible does not specifically address the act of suicide, we do find examples of people killing themselves in Scripture. Abimelech was fatally wounded in battle and asked his armor bearer to end his life (Judges 9:54). Samson purposely collapsed a building filled with his enemies, thus ending his own life (Judges 16:29–31). Saul asked his armor bearer to end his life after he lost his sons and troops in battle (1 Samuel 31:3–6). Ahithophel hung himself (2 Samuel 17:23). Zimri purposely set fire to the king’s palace and died inside (1 Kings 16:18). Judas, a disciple who betrayed Jesus, went out and hung himself (Matthew 27:5).

All of these stories, except that of Samson, are not presented favorably. The others were clearly ungodly men who acted out of desperation. But Samson is actually listed among the faithful heroes of faith in Hebrews 11. His sacrificial death has been compared to that of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.

Regardless, suicide is a tragic loss for those left behind. It shouldn’t be a time for finger-pointing and judging others—rather, it needs to be a time of reflection and prayer about what really matters in this world and how we can help others find eternal joy in Jesus Christ.

Robin Williams was beloved by millions, was by all accounts a part of a loving family, and had everything money could buy. Yet hopelessness consumed him. In these last days, we need to remember that ultimate hope isn’t found in the things of this world—which will all eventually turn to ash—but in Jesus Christ alone.

It’s over. The debate is settled.

It’s sugar, not fat, that causes heart attacks.

Oops. Fifty years of doctors’ advice and government eating guidelines have been wrong. We’ve been told to swap eggs for cereal. But that recommendation is dead wrong. In fact, it’s very likely that this bad advice has killed millions of Americans.

A rigorously done new study shows that those with the highest sugar intake had a four-fold increase in their risk of heart attacks compared to those with the lowest intakes. That’s 400 percent! Just one 20-ounce soda increases your risk of a heart attack by about 30 percent.

This study of more than 40,000 people, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, accounted for all other potential risk factors including total calories, overall diet quality, smoking, cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity and alcohol.

This follows on the heels of decades of research that has been mostly ignored by the medical establishment and policy makers. In fact, the Institute of Medicine recommends getting no more than 25 percent of your total calories from added sugar. Really? This study showed that your risk of heart attacks doubles if sugar makes up 20 percent of your calories.

Yet more than 70 percent of Americans consume 10 percent of their daily calories from sugar. And about 10 percent of Americans consume one in every four of their calories from sugar.

Failed Dietary Guidelines

U.S. Dietary Guidelines provide no limit for added sugar, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) still lists sugar as a “generally regarded as safe” (GRAS) substance. That classification lets the food industry add unlimited amounts of sugar to our food. At least the American Heart Association recommends that our daily diet contain no more than 5 percent to 7.5 percent added sugar. Yet most of us are eating a lot more. Most of us don’t know that a serving of tomato sauce has more sugar than a serving of Oreo cookies, or that fruit yogurt has more sugar than a Coke, or that most breakfast cereals — even those made with whole grain — are 75 percent sugar. That’s not breakfast, it’s dessert!

This is a major paradigm shift. For years, we’ve been brainwashed into thinking that fat causes heart attacks and raises cholesterol, and that sugar is harmless except as a source of empty calories. They are not empty calories. As it turns out, sugar calories are deadly calories. Sugar causes heart attacks, obesity, Type 2 diabetes, cancer and dementia, and is the leading cause of liver failure in America.

The biggest culprit is sugar-sweetened beverages, including sodas, juices, sports drinks, teas and coffees. They are by far the single biggest source of sugar calories in our diet. In fact, more than 37 percent of our sugar calories come from soda. The average teenage boy consumes 34 teaspoons of sugar a day, or about 544 calories from sugar. Even more troubling, this isn’t just putting kids at risk for heart attacks at some remote later date in their lives. It’s killing them before their 20th birthday.

This new research syncs with decades of data on how sugar causes insulin resistance, high triglycerides, lower HDL (good) cholesterol and dangerous small LDL (bad) cholesterol. It also triggers the inflammation we now know is at the root of heart disease.

And fats, including saturated fats, have been unfairly blamed. With the exception of trans fats, fats are actually protective. This includes omega-3 fats, nuts and olive oil, which was proven to reduce heart attack risk by more than 30 percent in a recent large randomized controlled study.

Here’s the simple fact: Sugar calories are worse than other calories. All calories are not created equal. A recent study of more than 175 countries found that increasing overall calories didn’t increase the risk of Type 2 diabetes, but increasing sugar calories did — dramatically.

How to Cure Our Sugar Addiction

America lags far behind the rest of the world in addressing this problem. Mexico, for example, responded after learning that when soda consumption increased to 20 percent of calories for the average citizen, their rates of obesity and Type 2 diabetes skyrocketed. Public health officials there researched effective solutions to combat obesity and diabetes from around the world.

The key interventions they implemented included taxing soda, banning junk food television advertising, and eliminating processed foods, junk food and sugar-sweetened beverages from schools. More than 15 countries have targeted sugar-sweetened beverages by taxing them — a strategy that’s proven successful.

Another effective strategy is revamping food labeling to make it clear if a food is good, should be consumed with caution, or is bad for you. In the United States, even someone with a Ph.D. in nutrition has trouble deciphering food labels. How can the average person be expected to know?

Recent and mounting scientific evidence clearly proves that sugar — and flour, which raises blood sugar even more than table sugar — is biologically addictive. In fact, it’s as much as eight times more addictive than cocaine.

The average American consumes about 152 pounds of sugar and 146 pounds of flour a year. It’s imperative that we revamp our outdated and dangerous national dietary guidelines. And we need clear strategies and medical programs to help people understand and address the health risks and addictive nature of sugar and refined carbohydrates.

That’s how we can reverse this tsunami of obesity and chronic disease that is robbing us of our health and crippling our economy.

Wishing you health and happiness,

Mark Hyman, MD

“It seems so hard for some, even for their conscience’ sake, to deny themselves the things that do not tend to health. We felt drawn out to speak to some on this subject. I shall not be clear unless I speak decidedly, for the spirit of self-indulgence will increase unless we take a decided stand. I have had grace given me to present decidedly the subject of health reform. Butter, cheese, flesh meats of dead animals, rich cake and poor cookery create disease and will certainly corrupt the blood, bring disease and suffering, and pervert the discernment. I beseech our people, to consider that health reform is essential and that which we place in our stomachs should be the simple nourishment of good, plainly prepared bread and fruits and grains. I shall have a much sharper testimony to bear on this subject. We must deny perverted appetite. I urge upon our people to learn the art of simplicity in eating. When will our people heed the word of the Lord given to caution them?”–Ms 5, 1879, pp. 3, 4. 7MR 348

Pregnant Mother’s Diet Sets Tastes of Child · January 01, 2014

Babies born to mothers, who eat a diverse and varied diet while pregnant and breast-feeding are more open to a wide range of flavors, say researchers in Philadelphia. Babies, who follow their mother’s diet after weaning, carry those preferences into adulthood.

There appears to be crucial periods in the womb and in infancy and toddler-hood in which the child’s preferences are formed that have life-long effect. Changing food preferences once they are formed is considerably more difficult, though it can be done.

“The preferences [children] form during the first years of life actually predict what they’ll eat later,” said Julie Mennella, a bio psychologist and researcher at the non-profit Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia.

Parents who feed their children a diet high in processed, refined foods, appear to be setting up their children for a lifetime of a preference for a narrow range of flavors found in junk foods, leading to obesity and other health problems.

The Monell researchers believe they have discovered that there are several sensitive periods when a child develops taste preferences. One of them is the first three months of age. What the mother eats while pregnant or breast-feeding is very important, they say. Flavors infants are exposed to in utero and from the mother’s milk signal the things that will be in their diet later in life.

The mother who eats a wide variety of vegetables, fruits and other healthy whole foods during pregnancy and into her baby’s toddlerhood is setting the taste trajectory of her child, who will be more likely to eat healthily as an adult, partly because the child learns what flavors are acceptable and also because he develops an emotional bond to those flavors. Babies learn through repeated exposure, say the researchers, “so, the more varied the diet, the more likely they’ll be to accept a novel food.”

Similarly, exposure to a maternal junk food diet means that children will have a preference for these same foods in the future. Researchers at FoodPlus research center at the University of Adelaide, South Australia, found that junk food exposure develops a “reward pathway” in the brain that is less sensitive when the mother eats junk food while pregnant.

Jessica R. Gugusheff, the lead author of the study, wrote, “When someone is addicted to drugs they become less sensitive to the effects of that drug, so they have to increase the dose to get the same high. In a similar way, by having a desensitized reward pathway, offspring exposed to junk food before birth have to eat more junk food to get the same good feelings.”

These studies reveal that infant formula is not the best for infants because the flavors never change, narrowing the infants taste preferences. But education of mothers and prospective mothers is also important to helping them make healthy choices for themselves during pregnancy as well as for their small children.

“…The idea that [pregnant] women, because of their special condition, may let the appetite run riot, is a mistake based on custom, but not on sound sense. The appetite of women in this condition may be variable, fitful, and difficult to gratify; and custom allows her to have anything she may fancy, without consulting reason as to whether such food can supply nutrition for her body and for the growth of her child. The food should be nutritious, but should not be of an exciting quality. Custom says that if she wants flesh meats, pickles, spiced food, or mince pies, let her have them; appetite alone is to be consulted. This is a great mistake, and does much harm. The harm cannot be estimated. If ever there is need of simplicity of diet and special care as to the quality of food eaten, it is in this important period. Counsels on Diet and Foods, page 220

The Central Valley in California is drying up and drilling for water has become more important than drilling for oil as water resources are being drained at an alarming rate. But some private landowners that still have leftover water reserves are cashing in. Two water districts in California are auctioning off their private supplies of water for millions. One of them, the Buena Vista Water Storage District, has already taken in about $13.5 million from the auction of 12,000 acre-feet of water this year. And now about 40 other landowners whose legal water rights often date back a century, have begun to sell their surplus of water.

The price of water in California has spiked tenfold to an all time high. An acre-foot of water can fetch $2,200. It is only a matter of time until those who cannot pay high prices for water will be left without, or at the mercy of those who control it. Water has become the new gold. Often the water is stored in underground caves or aquifers. Some of it is being sold from rivers by those who have the right to use the water.

Some cities, like Santa Barbara, also need water badly and are willing to pay for it. Almond farmers also desperately need a lot of water. Estimated average prices for water are in the range of $775 to $980 per acre-foot of water over the next year in some districts, more in others.

The implications are that food prices will soar. The Central Valley in California provides enormous amounts of food to much of the U.S. and exports account for a lot as well. As drought deepens, food could become scarce and famine follows.

“And there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in divers places…” Matthew 24:7

England’s health authority has warned that the Ebola virus in West Africa is “out of control,” and its Foreign Secretary Phillip Hammond says it poses a “very serious threat” to Britain. Travelers from West Africa could easily bring the disease to Britain and Europe as well as the Americas.

Britain has a crisis response committee to assess preparations to cope with any possible outbreak of the deadly disease. Health workers are being warned to watch carefully for signs of the virus.

As of this briefing, there have been more than 1200 cases and more than 670 deaths from Ebola according to the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention.

I was shown the inhabitants of the earth in the utmost confusion. War, bloodshed, privation, want, famine, and pestilence were abroad in the land…My attention was then called from the scene. There seemed to be a little time of peace. Once more the inhabitants of the earth were presented before me; and again everything was in the utmost confusion. Strife, war, and bloodshed, with famine and pestilence, raged everywhere. Other nations were engaged in this war and confusion. War caused famine. Want and bloodshed caused pestilence. And then men’s hearts failed them for fear, “and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth.” Testimonies for the Church, vol. 1, page 268.
