Greece Getting More Time · October 29, 2012

Greek Finance Minister Yannis Stournares triumphantly told the Greek Parliament that Greece will get two more years to meet its austerity and budgetary targets. But German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble denied the claim saying that no decision has been made. The European Central Bank (ECB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also denied the claim. Nevertheless, the European press was full of reports quoting various unnamed sources in support of the two-year extension. And extension would be politically unsavory in Germany, but German leaders are softening up their positions and appear to be laying the groundwork for a softer approach to Greece and to push more concessions through the German parliament.

Greece has already had two aid packages worth a total of €240 billion. But Stournaras’ speech in parliament announcing the extension was so confident that one German paper said “He speaks like someone who knows he cannot lose.”

No matter what happens, Greece will need more debt concessions from its creditors and from their taxpayers. This will be expensive, but not as expensive as a Greek default. The two-year delay reveals the depth of Greece’s misery, and the helplessness of its so-called saviors.

It seems like everyone that has an interest in the Greek crisis needs a two-year delay. For one, German Chancellor Angela Merkel needs calm on the Greek front in the run-up to German elections scheduled for a year from now. In addition, the IMF recalculated the effect of the austerity on the Greek economy and reported that it is worse than originally expected. “Most experts also now agree that Greece will never be able to get back on its feet without another significant slashing of debt.” The Germans don’t want that, but they may not have a choice. In the meantime, a little calm will take the focus off of the problem for a while.

But there are not many, even among educators and statesmen, who comprehend the causes that underlie the present state of society. Those who hold the reins of government are unable to solve the problem of poverty, pauperism, and increasing crime. They are struggling in vain to place business operations on a more secure basis. Summary: Treating depression can get complicated. The following list provides some holistic suggestions for dealing with depression to incorporate into your daily routine.

Many factors contribute to depression. For example, too much leisure frequently causes depression; also jealousy, being unappreciated, lack of genuine religion, overwork, anticipating future wants, and stimulating amusement. To avoid depression, follow these suggestions:

1. Maintain strict regularity for meals. Do not eat or drink between meals. Omit all evening food, retiring to bed only after digestion is complete.

2. Guard against overeating or undereating. Depression can settle on the mind after eating too much or too little food.

3. Maintain a “calming diet.” Avoid stimulating or irritating foods such as hot pepper, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, vinegar, and anything made with vinegar such as pickles, mayonnaise, ketchup, or mustard.

Also avoid foods that have been through a fermenting, putrefying, or rotting phase in processing, such as sauerkraut, cheese, soy sauce, and similar products; baking soda and baking powder products; caffeine, Theobromine (from coffee, tea, colas, and chocolate), and nicotine.

Limit all concentrated foods, including wheat germ, margarine, dried skim milk, and all animal products. Eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. Eat nuts only sparingly.

4. Eliminate sugar, honey, dried or very sweet fruits and vegetables, and coconut, while the depression lasts.

5. Eat freely of foods that are high in B-vitamins, such as greens, legumes, and whole grains, since B-vitamins are called “good disposition vitamins.”

6. Stimulate the skin with a stiff brush daily before a cool shower. Spray cold water over adrenal areas of the back at the end of each bath or shower.

7. Maintain regularity in all things including digestion, bed times, and exercise.

8. Bathe in the sun daily, weather permitting.

9. Do deep breathing exercises.

10. When walking, keep a brisk pace. Also, keep your head up, face cheerful, breathing correct, and posture good. Walk in nature an hour or more each day.

11. Undertake a graduated exercise program. For example, some find that gardening with bare feet and hands is helpful.

12. Check your health:
a) Check the length of time your intestinal tract requires to process 8-10 charcoal tablets into your stool
b) Undergo laboratory work (PBI, blood sugar, Hct, T-4)

14. Control the amount and goal of your speech. For example don’t talk too much, or too little, and only about cheerful subjects. Don’t give in to gossip or complaining.

15. Develop a daily program of Bible study and prayer. Learn to control your thoughts, and dwell on heavenly themes.

Europe: More Centralization of Banking Power · October 23, 2012

“European leaders took a step toward creating a single supervisor for banks in countries that use the euro.” The leaders decided to develop a legal framework for a European superbank by January 1. The banking union, led by the European Central Bank would oversee all 6,000 eurozone banks, and would launch its operations sometime in 2013. Their ultimate goal is to give the European bailout fund the “power to rescue banks directly, bypassing national governments.”

Though this is all about supporting the corrupt banking system, it is also prophetic in that it places more power in the hands of fewer people and creates a banking cabal that will control all the finances and the economy of the eurozone. While the leaders are working on this banking monopoly for the eurozone countries only at present, they have their eyes on all the banking of the European Union.

Banks, not surprisingly, are at the core of Europe’s financial problems. This is true in America too. It is the bankers or the merchants of the earth as the Bible calls them, who manipulate global finances in their own interests.

“European leaders want to shield troubled governments from the burden of supporting their [own] banks” from the public treasury thus increasing their debt. The reason Euro-leaders want to reduce the link between national governments and their banks is because it decreases the risk of political instability. Political instability creates civil unrest and undermines their determination to strengthen the European Union, Europe’s regional supranational government. Also trouble in the financial markets over huge national debts undermines the ability of the Eurocrats to further centralize their power over the nations under their control.

“In the world gigantic monopolies will be formed. Men will bind themselves together in unions that will wrap them in the folds of the enemy. A few men will combine to grasp all the means to be obtained in certain lines of business.” Maranatha, page 182

The Other Woman

 Lesson #22
Every marriage must rely on trust – and likewise in our union with Christ, we must remain faithful to Him and His Word. Revelation speaks about the true bride of Christ, but there is another woman who is trying to seduce believers away from God’s Word. Revelation contains a shocking message about Babylon, the other woman. Babylon is fallen, and Christ’s people must escape her charms or perish! Thu…

What is Christianity?

What is Christianity?

Have you ever asked, “What is Christianity?” The first thing that comes to mind for most people is a church building or a particular denomination. Others might think of doctrines, teachings or theology. But even the word “religion” just doesn’t quite capture Christianity or what it means to be a Christian. It’s sort of like the difference between a computer and a flower. Some things can be taken apart and put back together without much damage, but when you dissect Christianity, you take the risk of putting it to death!

So, let me carefully share some thoughts about Christianity and what is a Christian. First, the word is clearly tied to the name of Christ. The Bible tells us that Jesus’ disciples “were first called Christians in Antioch” (Acts 11:26). Some Bible scholars believe the term was used with scorn, sort of like calling Christians “little Christs”. Certainly people seemed to sense something different about followers of Christ. “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13).

Christianity is a religion that centers in Jesus. But it is not so much a religion that intellectually holds to a set of beliefs about Christ. Rather, it is believing in Christ. Such belief is called faith. It means to trust in the teachings of the Bible in a way that is life-changing. An atheist can study Christianity. An agnostic can hold a doctorate degree in Biblical Theology. But only a person who chooses to accept Christ as the Lord of their life can be a Christian.

Being a Christian could be compared to flying an airplane. (I’m a pilot and love to fly airplanes, so bear with me!) Some people might think they are pilots (Christians) if they sit in a classroom (church) and listen to lectures about how to fly an airplane. But there is a big difference between sitting in a chair (pew) and hearing information about flying a plane and actually sitting in the cockpit and taking an aircraft into the wild blue yonder! I’m not suggesting you need a pilot’s license to be a Christian. What I’m saying is that Christianity is less about being right and more about living right.

I am a Christian because I am a follower of Jesus Christ who loves me and gave His life for me. Without Jesus in my life, I am doomed to an eternally dark grave. Christianity is way of living that is based on the revelation of God found in the Bible, the Holy Scriptures. Though there are many sects, denominations, and religions which claim Christianity (and many others which profess to have truth), I am deeply convinced that none of them compare with the clear and compelling story of Jesus found in the Bible. My life has changed because I accepted the Christ of Christianity into my heart. My experience has moved me out of the classroom and into the cockpit of life. And from where I sit, the view is breathtaking!
